Dewson Entertainments is not an agency. We don't just represent our bands from a distance, we manage and control all aspects of their work from the choice of songs through the actual individuals who play in them. This is an effective way of maintaining a high professional standard from our musicians and means we are receptive to the needs of clients. It also means that we don't charge commission - the price you pay is the price the band charge. Dewson Entertainments started out (many years ago) as The SERIOUS Hat Band. We made records, we toured and we played private gigs, starting out with friends' weddings and parties. Eventually we were asked to do so many private jobs that we took to doing it full time. The more gigs you play, the more people see you and if you not only get everyone up and dancing but are also well organised, punctual and accommodating, the people you work for will also recommend you to others. We did advertise fairly extensively at one time, but there's not much need any more. Almost all our bookings come from recommendations and from people who have seen us play. Eventually, we were getting far too many bookings to fulfil, so we decided to start another band in the image of The SERIOUS Hat Band. This became [the top hat band]. We interviewed and auditioned the musicians, trained them in our way of doing things and, as before, when people saw what a good job they did, their bookings grew rapidly. This is a pattern we've now repeated several times, changing the style and repertoire of the bands to build a stable capable of providing entertainment for almost any private function or party. We've also been running comedy clubs for over 10 years, so with our connections we are able to provide a full entertainment package: from a 3 piece rock band to a 12 piece with horns and strings, a string quartet or chilled out afternoon jazz, magicians, comedians, whatever your needs, we can tailor the event to them.
